    That's probably why it's so cheap. But as someone who knows nothing about violins, it's a perfect starting piece. I don;t need something fancy until I know how to play it.

    You can get a decent students violin for around $120 at a local luthier, or at an estate auction where I have seen good violins go for as little as $20. Trust me, I have played the violin most of my life and spent two years in a symphony; this monstrosity would be hard if not impossible for me to play.
