We did this for the kids' homeschooling supplies. It works VERY well, but those card catalogs are getting incredibly difficult to find.

Expensive too.

My wife and I have an old apothecary that we originally used to store CDs back in the day. It now sits mostly empty. A liquor cabinet might be the trick to revive it. For anyone looking for something similar, an apothecary is more affordable and much easier to find than the card catalog.
