Follow up: I did this to my bedroom, sans dark ceiling, and it's looks and feels fantastic. I will post pictures when complete.
The paint color I used was Valspar-Mark Twain Gray Brick. It turned out to have more blue tone than I would care for, but still looks nice. If I repaint I will specifically be looking for more brown tones.
