    This pretty much sums up the real problem...

    "He is described – in court records and interviews – as a peculiar man with a history of erratic, sometimes criminal, behavior and a deep suspicion of the government."

    Trying to make sense out of the chain of events in that article, this looks like suicide by cop. It says the SRO(student resources officer) calmed him down or held him at gunpoint till the police arrived and then he drew on them and was shot.

    Yes, it's an older story, but it's quite relevant to the current debate nonetheless. And the way I read it, the SRO and the gunman were at a face to face stand-off with eachother, then when the cops showed up, he couldn't decide who to threaten, but wouldn't drop his weapon or stop threatening so they shot him.
