This is going to be an unpopular post with some ugly responses. I welcome them

With that said, I love wine. I love visiting Napa Valley and have many memorable visits to the area. I have friends that work for some of the vineyards in Napa. I have enjoyed visiting Cakebread, Opus, Rutherford etc and dining and enjoying the sunset at Auberge du Soleil.

It is not new news that they have been sitting on a fault that could cause this at anytime. This is not by far new news. The damage to the wines stored could have been long ago prevented. The damage to the vines seems to be intact along with the production equipment. That is key.

So I am sorry for the loss of great wines, but this could have been prevented by moving to more stable storage. There is nothing sacred or special about storing wine in Napa. The cost of preparing could have prevented this loss if they were stored in Napa.

Again this is not some undiscovered fault or news. CA had plenty of time to prepare. Just as us NC, SC, GA and FL folks prepare for hurricanes. I am sure my tax dollars will help pay for the losses. Again the production arm of Napa seems to have gone unscathed. Grapes will grow without a beat.
