I had heard a little bit about the kerfuffle surrounding Zoe Quinn. It looks like everyone involved is a little bit dirty, both Quinn's defenders and her detractors.

I never read videogame journalism, and this is probably why.

I've actually watched some of Anita Sarkeesian's videos, and I can say that this article is full of bullcrap. It, and the comments that were made, pretty much prove that Anita Sarkeesian is right.

The best thing I can say about Anita Sarkeesian is that she isn't interested in what people actually find interesting about how stories are structured.

        You've watched her videos, then?

Yeah, she made a really nice argument, but ultimately I'm not convinced because her argument doesn't take into account the kinds of stories people want told.

Right. Because let's cater to the assholes who want to play stores about rape.

Is that all you got out of her videos? That seems like an unfair summary of what she said. One of her primary complaints was the very common "damsel-in-distress" structure of videogame plots encourages women to be passive.

The damsel in distress plot is mythic. It represents something about what we really want, even though it fundamentally is unlike reality. Men want to be heroes. Women want men to overcome adversity to become worthy of them. Myths tell us something about ourselves, that is why they are so popular. Men *and* women want this kind of story. Ultimately, Sarkeesian has a problem with what other women actually want.

"Damsels in distress" is one of the *mildest* things that she's objected to, and that's what you picked up?

When a game rewards you for having sex with a hooker, then killing her to get your money back, I would hardly think that's something women want in a video game. That's not "mythic", that's a horror show.

I don't see anything blatantly incorrect in the article. Just in the title here. "Promiscuous"? Who would touch these..."chicks"...except some diesel dike?
