I wonder what the license plates have to do with the story?

Outside Magazine had an article about this race. Getting in to the race is quite wacky, and bringing a license plate is part of the admission. Here's the link to the full article: http://www.outsideonline.com/1924491/60-hours-hell-story-barkley-marathons
