I think saying "Sterling Archer Has Recorded An Entire Jazz..." would make just as much sense considering character personality and the very end of the video.

I was with him all the way, till that intro. Admittedly, his "It had to be you" was better than I expected. As a pianist, this was hilarious but at the same time thought provoking. I have heard much worse played intentionally as "art" or modern music expressions that still have me puzzled, especially when compared with the mathematics and beauty of the classics. Jazz is its own animal.
I don't know. I think I could listen to a whole album just to see and appreciate where his muse and inner rhythm would take him. There could be moments of inspired greatness there. Listening to someone play for the first time is much like watching someone paint or sketch for the first time, though our ears tend to be more critical than our eyes. I wonder what someone would play like if they never took lessons, never conformed to the rules and never tried to please anyone's ear but their own. What would that music sound like? What would that language tell us?

Interesting, you're a thoughtful guy with interesting takes on other issues so I appreciat reading your response. I have years of classical piano in my background before I snapped and quit in college. And I can appreciate jazz with structure and cadence and noticeable skill involved in playing it...however, I think he was lampooning the other type....the crap jazz. I took it as lampooning that type of jazz anyway. I didn't think it was done seriously at all.
If you could listen to any length of it to find the inner beauty, you're a far better man than me! I'll walk out of a performance if someone is simply consistently out of tune (I can forgive kids on this though).
I hear my own kids before they started lessons, banging and noodling around on the piano, and his stuff sounded much the same; perhaps that makes me biased against. Perspective is amazing.
Especially liked the guys who were taking him seriously. That is one funny ballsy dude. I wouldn't put myself out there, but I'm also not the voice of Sterling Archer.
