Since I tacked an article recently that claimed it was solved, it only seems right to tack something that says it is not.
The good news is that my theory of it being aliens is still plausible.

Aliens until proven otherwise. Granted, I formulated this theory solely on seeing "Close Encounters of the Third Kind" in the theater as a child.
