My Dad lost some weight even though he was skinny to begin with. He basically lost his beer-belly when he went cold turkey.

I drink in moderation. Maybe, maybe one beer every couple of weeks or so. I do notice that one beer makes me feel just as full as a couple slices of pizza. And beer with pizza will put me in a carb-coma!

I have also noticed that many who quit drinking, especially beer, still tend to crave the sugar and will substitute soda for beer. AA warns you of this. My Dad went through this phase. He exchanged Meisterbrau for Coca Cola. He put on some weight before he eventually dropped it when he cut way back on the Coca Cola. In 2004, I cut out all soda and 1/2 my carbs. Lost 30 lbs in 4 months. It took 12 years for me to gain back 20 of those pounds. Not from drinking soda but from lack of exercise due to a deteriorating back which limited exercise.

From the pics you can tell many didn't just stop drinking alcohol. They also changed other dietary and exercise habits as well. All in all, moderation + exercise is the key to a healthy body and healthy mind.

As far as diet goes with or without exercise, intermittent fasting has been good for me. I eat from noon till 8PM and do my best to not eat anything after (that's hardest for me 'cause I like late night snacks). I've lost 20 lbs this way. It's supposed to be good because it gives your organs a break from digesting.
