I admire people who do things like this. Once you marry, settle down, get older, etc., it becomes less likely to happen. But there are days when I wish I could just leave it all and "walk the earth."
Back in 2011 a young dude from California flew out to Florida with nothing to his name and walked back to California, putting his faith in God and trust of his fellow man to the test. I followed him on Blogger.com. He would keep a journal of his travels on an iPod and send the info to his mom anytime he found free wifi. His mom would post his journal entries to Blogger (which was Blogspot at the time). It was very interesting to read, but when he got home his mom quit posting, and she was running about 1-week behind his "real time" journey, so we never got to hear about his final week getting home.
