On the show Longmire there was an occasional story line that featured something like this but I didn’t think it was based on a real thing. That is pretty cool.
On a side note... for any treasure hunters, I have buried a similarly valuable chest in my neighbors yard, the one with all the obnoxious seasonal lawn ornaments, the loud parties that stretch too late into the night, and whose friends park on the side of the road nearly blocking through traffic ...yeah. Lots of valuables buried deeply somewhere in his yard.
