Do you have a better list of guns you can think of?

The only gun on this list I agree with, is the pump 12 gauge shotgun.

For a long gun, I would go with 5.56mm/.223rem semi-auto rifle. Preferably a more reliable piston actioned AR style rifle, or a Garand action like the Ruger Mini-14. The .223rem is widely used and available in North America, making it a better choice during a disaster.

For a handgun, I would choose either the Springfield Armory XD-40 in 40s&w, as reliable as a Glock without the horrible grip angle, or the world's most perfect pistol for over a century, the 1911 in 45acp. The 40cal is a better choice, because it is the most widely used by law enforcement and is plentiful, though personally I prefer the old reliable 45.

Ya as it says this was a guest post on my site. I actually don't have any on the list. I have an AR-15 but like the AK47 as well. I have a beretta auto loader semi auto 12ga shotgun. For the pistol I have a 9mm S&W shield as my edc and a 357 mag trooper mkv revolver. I would like to get a 1911 though in 45acp.

These types of posts are always fun because a lot of it is more based on preference and so I like to see the opinions and sometimes the arguments.

I'd have to agree with all of that. Plus 5.56mm is a lot lighter weight wise. Personally I would go with a revolver, but there is nothing wrong w/ the tried and true .45 such as the 1911. For the pump I'd choose a Remington 870, or something similar. The M1A scout that Springfield makes has always looked like a good choice for a long gun, but w/out looking it up, it may be a 7.62.

    I try to recommend what I know. I have two 40cals, a Beretta 96 and a XD-40, and a pair of 45s, a Smith & Wesson, and a Springfield Armory 45.

I have a WWII military issue Browning Auto-5 12 gauge. Though for simplicity and reliability sake, I'd still recommend a pump shotgun, either the Remmington 870, or the Mossberg 500 series.

I have several rifles, but the two I'd keep handy in a disaster are my Ruger Mini-14 Ranch Rifle in .223rem. with open sights, and a UK military surplus L1A1 (FN-FAL type) battle rifle in 7.62mm/308cal, with a 30 power scope for longer shots.
