I believe in the existence of God, I also accept the theory of evolution as scientific fact. But evolution only explains how species change over time, it does not explain the the emergence of living things from non-living matter. There may be a scientific explanation for this, but evolution is not it. Science and religion exist for different reasons, I don't look to the Bible to explain the material world and I don't look to science for moral, spiritual, or ethical guidance.

I agree, well said. From what I understand, the church actually got people to start looking into science. I also have found it strange that both sides have this dogmatic view that the other side is wholey and completely wrong, no exception. I have often thought about these 2 comcepts, and how I didn't feel that they were exclusive of each other. Now that I am back in school, in a very heavy science field, i find evidence of evolution, but also find it extremely fascinating how amazing the body is, and how extremely organized it is. Sometimes I will look at parts of the body and just marvel at how amazing it is, and think, this had to be put together on purpuse. Then other times I see things in the body and can see how it got there via an evolutionary process. But neither of these things can be proven, and both must be taken on faith. I know that the guy in the video states the 'fact' that God exists because of his relationship with his wife, but that was the only error in his logic that I saw. Really, the bible even states that we must do this on faith. So what faith do we prescribe to?
    Thanks for the input folks.

I'm currently reading "Death Before The Fall" by Ronald Osborn. He was brought up in a strict Seventh Day Adventist home and Adventists are very strict literal six, 24-hour day creationists. Then Osborn went to college and studied biology. His book goes back and asks if the Bible really teaches that animal death didn't occur before the fall of Adam. This is a linchpin in the argument against evolution because evolution involves death and extinction. Osborn does a good job of at least opening the possibility of pre-fall animal death and he does it from the Bible itself. The problem on both sides of the debate is that there is a lot of closed-minded, "my way or the highway" kind of thinking and precious little dialogue. I appreciate Discovery Institute and the arguments for Intelligent Design but they are being marginalized and ridiculed before they're listened to. BTW, I'm the pastor of an evangelical church and I'm currently preaching through Genesis. I have not addressed these issues in my sermons because I don't think the book of Genesis addresses them.

I don't have a problem with either side in my own life, but I'm bothered when one side is hyper-critical of the other.
Science is the search for truth and I want to know the truth about my physical world around me.
Spiritually, I am just as interested in the truth. I believe that scientific discovery and a spiritual search for God should complement each other...and anyone who disagrees with me is wrong!
    (Just kidding)
