An interesting article out of the USA Today today. I know the Top Gear folks did the same analysis, this just breaks it down further. I have been a Prius owner (absolutely hated it) but would love to own a Tesla. The reasons I would buy one do not quite fit into the eco-freak crowd. Enjoy!

I own a Leaf and really want a Tesla but it's out of my budget. Overall
fully electric cars are almost better that combustible engine cars. The reason why I say that is because every man needs a car with a good loud engine.

Yup, sounds about right for the way our system works. But I think you could attribute the remaining $7,473 to the warm and fuzzies these people get from their self-righteous feelings of superiority. Oh, and democrats are essentially buying votes with taxpayer money. Now if we can only get rid of ethanol subsidies...
P.S. - I also want a Tesla.

I drive 200 miles per day on average. I can wear a car out in three or four years from sheer mileage. I can't justify a $40k car that won't make it through a work day. I'll keep beating down Craig's list soul sucking econobox junk that get 25-30mpg with no payments and low taxes and insurance. It's all down to cost to operate and own.
