Sure it had an effect, the placebo effect where people just need to feel good about it. That's the point of progressive politics anyway, isn't it? Not to actually solve problems but to be in charge "solutions" that make people feel good while also creating a perpetual need for more progressive solutions.
Just started reading a little GK Chesterton who puts forth that the cost of individual freedom is chaos. He nailed the progressive/conservative dichotomy 100 years ago and he is just as relevant today.
My thoughts are that a completely safe society and a free society are mutually exclusive and of all those who put forth solutions, our esteemed leader is one of those I trust the least.
