I think you could filter that through any number of spiritual approaches: God, karma, the simple natural law of cause and effect.... either way A) it's hard to argue against and B) it's sobering.

I try hard not to go off on spiritual rants on this board for several reasons, mostly bc I know not everyone agrees and God knows I don't want to be "that type" of Christian.

But this is 100% correct. I really do believe any country, per se, deserves the leaders it gets rather than vice versa.

    Proverbs 29:2 (ESV)
"When the righteous increase, the people rejoice,
but when the wicked rule, the people groan."

Me too skilletboy. Me too. God raises up nations and he takes them down. Assyria rose to dominance and God used it for his purpose and then, according to Isaiah 10 and Nahum, he judged them for their pride and wickedness. America had a good run but got drunk on power after WWII. God could still send us revival (please!!?) and turn us around. Or drop us in the drink. God have mercy. Christ have mercy.

And Chet, I agree. This is a specifically Christian answer to the question of why but other perspectives can easily arrive at a similiar conclusion.

Karma? We've pumped out enough garbage collectively to have it come back and haunt us.

Cause and Effect? We've become a selfish nation and have been so pampered by our politicians that we've kind of wiggled ourselves into this corner.
