This is a very cool event when seen in person. While I have not had the pleasure of seeing the blue waves, I have experienced what is often referred to as the Red Tide which occurs off the cost of southern California. While dining one evening at the pier restaurant in San Clemente, we watched as the moon reflected the red phytoplankton in the waves. Very, very cool.
