I agree that the claim Romney killed a man's wife by closing a plant, etc. is stupid. Can't we just judge candidates based on their beliefs and history. The truth is, Romney believes jesus was an alien and he wears magic underwear. Why would we think that someone who believes that is of sound mind and capable of oval office?

While not a Romney supporter by any stretch (and personal beliefs are as good a reason as any to dislike a candidate), I might suggest that if one is to disqualify one candidate for seemingly fantastic religious beliefs, then one should feel obligated to disqualify any candidates who hold religious beliefs, given that all religions feature fantastic or "magic" elements.

I would be more interested in what Romney believes will fix the economy, what he believes should be done to reform healthcare, how he believes the military should be employed, his stance on basic liberties, what he thinks about immigration, etc. more than his Christology or personal holiness (i.e. underwear) choices.

On many of those issues, I find him to be more of a flip-flopper than a true conservative voice. That whole "he killed my wife" thing is going to come back and bite the Democrats more than Romney.

ahnyerkeester, I think it is essential to judge candidates on those very issues you describe. I also thought the same as you when I saw this ad, surprised because these kinds of defamation of character tactics are more often used by the republicans. In fact, I have always believed that one of the strengths of the last Obama campaign was his ability to stay out of the dirt. Again, I can't say that I support either candidate very much, however their religious views are one of the last things I am personally concerned about. I also think anyone who honestly believes Romney is responsible for the wife's death is an idiot.

Oh, and I should add, I would also be concerned if Romney was a Mormon and didn't follow those things since they are part of the Mormon faith. I would be concerned about someone who would claim to be one thing but didn't hold to the things that are central to that.
