not to seem preachy or shove religious doctrine down your throat, but the New Testament actually defines this clearly and provides explicit instructions for marriage, and roles inside of it, that are surprisingly relevant today. The people I know that follow by it have overwhelmingly healthy marriages.
Personally, I find this to be rather sexist. Good relationships are based on open, honest communication. Save the alpha male crap for your pack of friends. The whole notion that men must be the dominant breadwinner or ruler of the house is ridiculous. If you are offended by your wife's success, you have much larger insecurity issues to deal with. I wish my wife made as much or more than I did. That would be more we could use to support the charitable organizations we believe in. Make your wife second fiddle and you will soon be playing solo.
Disclaimer: I have been married to my wife for 27 years. We helped put each other through college and encouraged each others successful careers. Our relationship is built on trust and love, not outdated philosophy.
