Surveillance plays a significantly larger role in 1984, with all of Winston's discussion of telescreens, and his and Julia's eventual incrimination by a hidden telescreen. Animal farm was an allegorical insult to Stalin and the Stalinists, and accusing them of betraying socialism. 1984 is a warning for the future.
Oh, nice! Still, doesn't mean vignettes within can't apply. Besides, certain blind followers willing to open their eyes must realize their dreams have also been betrayed.
Truth, but there's no pity for the willfully ignorant. We were warned this would happen when PATRIOT Act passed. It was exposed in 2006, under Bush (Warrantless Wiretapping among other programs), Congress rose to the controversy by lowering the requirements under FISA. Obama's admin stated that the NSA continued under these new guidelines until 2009, when the NSA admitted to a "over collection" of data.
But no, shocker! Of 2 Internet age administrations, 2 have been caught violating the 4th in digital medium. Then suddenly everyone's outraged when it happens again. Like I said, willful ignorance.
