I disagree. While the driver would be justified in pulling out a handgun, he's still outnumbered, and worse, any number of the motorcyclists could be carrying also.
While I might critique after the fact that I might have done "X" instead, I think he handled it as well as could be expected in real time. Not that many people put in this situation would recognize that they're sitting in two tons of defensive weapon, or would have the will to use the mass to escape. I've seen quite a few YouTube videos of people being attacked in their vehicles and just sitting there, even when they had an opening to escape.

I don't know that I would have done much different than this driver except to slow way down when these idiots started to swerve in front of the truck.
