It was difficult enough to look at him already.... Republican establishment = Whig Party.
Who invited the politicians? Take this mess back over to Facebook. This is a club for gentlemen.
Is your assertion is that a gentleman would not discuss or bring awareness to current events? I agree that rude comments and ad hominem attacks do not belong. You are welcome to not participate if it makes you uncomfortable.
No. My assertion is that, in a public place, a gentleman would not instigate an argument. He would sip his scotch and change the subject to something just as cerebral as politics but more palatable for spending time with other gentlemen.
Perhaps this: http://www.9news.com/news/sidetracks/358776/337/NASA-preparing-to-launch-3-D-printer-into-space
My suggestion was also made in the hopes that we can avoid the drama here on Gentlemint that one would experience on other social media. I would hope we could avoid making anyone any more uncomfortable than what they would be among real life friends.
If one cannot maintain a gentlemanly level of conduct while discussing politics then one is not a true gentleman.
So I guess no one sees my point? I'd like to have a site/community that is not as inane and spurious as other social media. I can go to a nice high-end bar and have drinks and discuss the finer, more pleasant things, or I could go to a dive and get in a fist fight. I see Gentlemint as the nice bar and facebook as the brawl pub. Is it ok to want to keep it that way?
I do see your point, and I believe the critical issue is not the topics discussed but how they are discussed. I respect your desire to preserve the atmosphere but current events, especially details that may not be kicked around by talking heads, are necessary for the free and open exchange of ideas. I would not discuss any topic here that I would not discuss in person. But that is just me and we are clearly different and I will say no more on the subject.
On a different note, your link was appreciated. I wonder what the long term impact of 3-D printers will be on society. It is my hope that access to this technology remains open because of the amazing potential, especially in third world countries....and space. I have wondered for years when construction on a Death Star would begin. I am glad that someone is taking that task on.
