Saeed Abedini, an Iranian-American pastor from Idaho who visited Iran to assist in building an orphanage, has been imprisoned for more than a year simply because of his Christian faith. Initially held in Evin Prison – where Iran holds hundreds of political prisoners – he’s been abused and pressed to sign “confessions” and convert to Islam. Showing courage few American Christians can comprehend, he’s steadfastly refused to “confess” (to crimes he didn’t commit) or convert.

I've got to say something controversial here. I don't like that this is happening to him or anyone else but it's not like he didn't know he was going to be gambling with his life when he went.

This is just like the case where that idiot kid when over to Iraq to try to convert people on his own accord and was arrested several times and told to leave by our govt. but he didn't and ended up getting his head cut off.

I get that they're trying to make the world a better place but... Come on, WTF did you expect?

I get your meaning, and it's not controversial. Unless your meaning he is deserving what is happening to him. Then, yes, I think that is controversial.

He did go into this eyes wide open. He and his family did know this was a possibility. Similarly soldiers, cops, and rescue workers know it too. It doesn't stop them from doing the jobs they felt called to do.

He is being detained solely because he is a Christian convert from Islam. He was there helping to build an orphanage, not for the purpose of preaching, though admittedly, I'm sure there was some going on. Point is, he was there visiting family and on a rescue mission.

That doesn't mean that we shouldn't try to do something about it, especially with a country that wants a seat at the "big kids" table with regards to world politics.
