I am not sure why they call this a smart charger. It’s not energizers usual battery broiler, but a smart charger it is not.
It charges only in pairs, which means one battery is always overcharged and one is always undercharged, either way it shortens the length of the batteries that are charged in it.
For another $15 you can get the La Crosse 700, a real smart charger, that charges each cell individually and you get to choose how fast or how slow you want to charge. It also take NiMH and NiCd.
On the other hand if you’re looking for a nice dumb charger that doesn’t broile your batteries and cost under $20, this will do the trick.
