You can get scrap pieces of granite, such as the piece cut out of a countertop for a sink, much more cheaply and do the same thing. Put it in a cold oven, turn the oven on to 400, and leave it for 30 - 40 minutes. Take it out with very heavy oven gloves, put it on a trivet or hot pad, and cook the steaks 5 minutes on each side right on the table.
