My father-in-law was a Merchant Seaman for most of his life. He would always tell us that, no matter how big a ship you're on, there is always a wave that's bigger. He shipped out on those big container ships, and would say that his ship surfed down the face of one wave, and steamed up another. We're talking ships that are 900+ feet long!
Awesome. I am from southeast Alaska, and one of the main modes of transport is the Alaska marine hwy sys. We were on a boat, probably 250' long in a winter storm and hit repeated large waves. So large they actually broke out the front windows. Many people were convinced we would die, most of them were stoned, and the bathrooms were full of people getting sick. Me being young and dumb had a similar reaction as this guy, my friends and I were just laughing and amazed.
While in the Navy, my brother's ship, the USS Reasoner (FF-1063), was tracking a Russian sub in the Bering Sea near Adak, AK. They had 30+ foot waves and horizontal snow. He said the rookies were puking everywhere. He was more like you, standing on the bridge and having a good time. To this day, he still misses it. I did not inherit that quality.

I can't imagine waves that large. I admire people who can work in those conditions.
