Yup, my son was trained up and ready for cowboy action shooting (pistol, rifle, shotgun) by the time he was 12, the youngest they allow one to compete.
He got another safety course when he got personal competition training from an L.A. Sheriff's Dept. instructor. The fun was our time training and competing together. It will go him good the rest of his life.
