Honestly, cry me a damn river! We have all had shitty jobs in the past. These were jobs that we knew were not our careers, gave us appreciation for what we desired, but they were only temporary. My first job was pumping gas. It sucked and I even got fired from it, but I did not expect to be treated more than the Gas Jockey who I was at the time. I was a stock boy, worked in retail at Gap Kids and many other crappy jobs for years. But as a customer I have usually seen the wait staff that have a indifferent or chip on their shoulder to begin with and yet give 20+% in tips. So man up and quit your bitchin. ;-)

Hey, I don't defend crappy waiters. That's not my bag. I hate crappy waiters. But this was more of a "show a little respect for your waiter and you wouldn't always get crappy service"-type argument here. And if you're already tipping 20%, then, um, this article isn't for you, is it? I know a lot of people who give 10% for good service and think that's just fine, and it's not.

Yeah, that didn't quite make me feel bad for servers. I understand that there are a lot of things that we as customers don't see as we are enjoying our meals or even chatting after the meal. I think this article overall does a disservice to those working for tips. Gonna have to go with Nickolas on this one.
