I do like Rippetoe and I strongly encourage anyone interested in becoming stronger to read his (wordy) book "Starting Strength". I agree with Rip that every aspect of a persons life will improve with an increase in strength.
Great post, it appeals to my inner strength training nerd.

Two things based on personal experience (not contradicting Mr. Rip).
      1. Screw the shoulders down and bring the shoulder blades closer to the hips before you even touch the bar...allows for me to be even tighter.
      2. Before the bar is lifted off, a breath of air so huge that you become physically uncomfortable will help achieve that total tightness the is referenced briefly in the video...and you'll be stronger too!
Tighter = Stronger where a compound barbell lift is concerned.
(There's more, but unless these points are mastered, it makes little difference.)
