These are not (in my opinion) words of wisdom coming from a man who has learned a great truth in life that needs to be shared with the next generations. I find these the sad thoughts of a man who has come to his final stage in life and never learned that true happiness comes from giving oneself to others. Self love is both shallow and hollow, it will always leave you wanting, lonely, and unfulfilled.

      Hey todd.

Every old man can give some thoughts of wisdom, or to be more accurate "words of experience".
The story didn't have anything to do with opening yourself to others. It is about following your gut instict and not sacrificing your desires.

You didn't got the message wrong, your perspective could be correct too but the problem is that not eveybody understands what you understand. Because you know what true happiness is about it doesn't mean that other people know too ;)
