I took my wife to Virginia wine country two summers ago, and can't tell you how (pleasantly) surprised I was at the wines there....viogniers especially. I also liked Jefferson's cab francs. For Dave Matthews fans, don't overlook his Blenheim Vineyards, also in Va.
