No spoilers in the article. I didn't think the movie stunk, it was a lot of fun. But the author makes some very good points.

I saw Force Awakens yesterday. Several young children were in the theater as well. Now I'm old, and still get warm fuzzy's when I remember my dad taking me to see Return of the Jedi, they gave me a sticker. I wont hand out spoilers, instead I'll just say that I was pretty okay until 3p0 showed up, something about that scene smashed me right in the feels and I got a little weepy.

I mention all of this because while some may have gone into this movie expecting something new, I was hoping for something old, and I got it. What made me happiest of all, when I left the theater I watched some of the kids playing as if they had light sabers and talking about their favorite parts. I call that a win for Disney. And the setup for many more movies thrills me as a fan of the stories and mythology. I can't wait to see it again!

Exactly. It was fun and the dialogue didn't annoy me. I was happy with that.

That's how I felt. It didn't have to be a cinema redefining film the way the original was. It needed to be good because the prequels weren't. I needed to capture the excitement of the first. It needed to be fun again. And it was. Yes, I am looking forward to the sequel and there were a bunch of questions that need answering. But it should remain good fun and that's what we wanted.

I have not seen it yet and have not gone to a mainstream movie in the theater in years. Cell phones and rude folks have just ruined the experience for me.

I must admit though that the first movie I remember seeing is The Empire Strikes Back is one of my favorite childhood memories. Loving Star Wars toys and envying other kids At-Ats, Tie fighters, etc. I now have a son old enough that I do like the idea of going to the theater and having 'The Force Awaken's' be his first experience seeing a moving in the theater.

Just saw it. And yep, it pretty much retold the first Star Wars with better dialogue and tighter sequences. But considering how awful were the prequels that Lucas put together, this was quite refreshing.

No doubt it "Force" lacked significant creativity or innovation. But this isn't 1977 and significant creativity won't be coming from big studio projects.
It is a fun movie with a lot of the elements that made the first one so fun, and yet, it doesn't feel like a hack remake as most films do these days.
