Basically when inhaling helium, you are not inhaling oxygen. So think of it as holding your breath. Eventually you are going to pass out if you aren't careful, so huffing helium and playing with sharp objects could be bad.
In theory as long as you take a few breaths of air once in a while it is pretty harmless. Like swimming.
