It seems there has been a growing disdain for driving a car. As if it were a necessary evil. It has to be as eco friendly as possible. It has to be eliminated with mass transit if available. I love driving.
I have loved driving all sorts of cars since before I could legally drive. My first car was a Jeep CJ-7 and since then I have leased, owned, company car owned a lot of them of every shape and size. My favorite have been cars that embrace the joy of driving like the Porsche and BMW that I drive every day. The worst cars have been the ones that embrace this eco friendly world. That would be the Prius. The Prius was a POS. It was like driving a golf cart. It was not safe. It had gas milage the same as my BMW but with a terrible experience. But all my eco greenie coworkers applauded me. I hate that Prius it to this day.
I applaud Tesla for trying to make electric a great ride an I think they succeeded. But who really dreams of driving and owning a Leaf, or Prius? Give me a Mustang Shelby GT 350R any day.
Some things need to be said, soap boxes or not. Ford has made a Fusion hybrid that is a nice vehicle. Averages 41 mpg, and is both powerful enough to drive around town and for hard driving on the interstate. Plus it is plenty comfortable. Now I have no high end vehicle experience to relate to, except driving a friends jaguar, but I've been very happy.
I know this is a different topic than the posted link, but your post resonated and I wanted to offer my experience with a hybrid that was both good and not emasculating.
Living in Mountain View, only a couple of miles from Google headquarters, I see these ugly annoying bubble self-driving cars that are only able to go 25 mph. I swear I want to flip them over every time I see them. They block traffic and annoy the hell out of everyone.
