"….The problem with being too busy to read is that you learn by experience (or by your men’s experience), i.e. the hard way. By reading, you learn through others’ experiences, generally a better way to do business, especially in our line of work where the consequences of incompetence are so final for young men.

    We really need to clone this guy. I was very close to writing him in on my ballot a couple of weeks ago.

    Also William Slim's book, mentioned in the correspondence, is recommended reading. When it was first recommended to me some years ago, I thought, "Why do I want to read basically a logistics book written by Jonathan Quail Higgin's brother?" I was wrong.
