I've owned 4 in my adult life. I've seen one corner a rat in my shed. Up until the day he died, and including a move to a different state with a different shed, that dog would sniff around the shed looking for his next kill.
These dogs were originally bred to going into badger holes and flush out and attack badgers. I have not doubt my cute little wiener dogs, if given the chance, would revert back to their basic instinct and eat us all for supper. I've seen them at the dinner bowl when another animal approached. It wasn't pretty. And it was a sober reminder sometimes we may be on top of the food chain but there's always something just below looking to make the climb to the top.
