I get that many here eschew from using Apple products, and the reasoning is sound: they're expensive, fanboys, incremental releases, and did I mention the price?

That said, I'm a big fan of how they've handled privacy over the past couple of years, and have been disappointed about how Google and others have mishandled it. The updates with these maps are really interesting to me because of the privacy aspect: they don't track your location.

Anyway, I look forward to the comments :)

My previous job was flying aerial survey over the US and Canada. One of our jobs was 20cm-30cm resolution data over population centers of 50,000 people or more. In other word, we took very high definition pictures of the ground of a lot, A LOT of cities, highways, freeways, roadways, etc.

It was an open secret that this imagery was for one client. And not just our parent company as we were told. That client was affectionately called the "fruit company" amongst us employees. In 2015, our boss let the cat out of the bag and told us it was for Apple Maps.

As you can expect, we all laughed. He did inform us that Houston had been the first to be completed and that he'd used the app in Houston and never once was driven off a bridge, into a building, down a dead-end street or the wrong way on a one-way street.

So many of those cities that I flew over and gathered imagery from 2014-present are now being used to update and upgrade the Apple Maps app.

    You're welcome.

I'm still using Google maps though.

I read articles like this and it makes me scratch my head. I gave up on all Apple stuff years and years ago. It amazes me that people still use their products.
