It's an interesting road. I drove it solo once some years ago. Two things still stand out: I took a turn down an interesting 4x4 road, went down some miles, then thought, "Man, if I get stuck or break down it might be a week before I see anybody." Then, after wisely turning back and continuing down 50, I passed a power pole that I guess had heated up so much from the triple digit temps (this was in August) that the creosote caught fire, so there was this burning power pole in the middle of nowhere. It was like a Mad Max landscape.

I've driven a section of Hwy 50 in Kansas, and it was pretty isolated. I'll have to do the Nevada stretch some time.
