I prefer the ESV Study Bible, but I like commentaries as well. This one is much easier to carry than my big bug squasher Study Bible.

ESV is the best translation I've read. Clear and concise and supposedly very accurate. I don't read Greek or Hebrew so I can't confirm.

Hey Brian, I did Greek and Hebrew in seminary and we always had to compare our translation to other major Bible translations. The ESV is the one that most often thought did the best job of translating it. The NLT was about the worst and the NIV was good when it was good and really, really bugged me when it wasn't. Stick with the ESV and you'll pretty much get what the original text had in mind.

I'm partial to the NKJV because I prefer the Byzantine Greek text, but the translators of the ESV did a great job of keeping a balanced approach and produced a readable, scholarly Bible translation. And this edition looks beautifully bound.
