Back on my planet, $1000 for a laptop is not a value. 11 inch screen? No thanks.

i don't think you quite get the concept of the term "value for money".
it doesn't mean that the item is cheap...it means that for that amount of money spent, you're getting the best quality.
there's no pc out there with the build quality, small size, beauty and power of the macbook air for $1000. period.
